San Benito CISD superintendent on hot seat

SBCISD logoIn a closed session item citing alleged policy violations, San Benito CISD Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón has been placed on the agenda for Thursday’s regular board meeting.

The item is up for discussion and/or possible action on the “superintendent’s violation of BDAA (Legal) and BE (Local)”, which Limón said are in reference to School Board President Yliana G. Rodriguez’s concern with an Aug. 30 public hearing and meeting in which trustees approved the district’s 2011-2012 budget.

“It’s quite clear she’s still upset over the difference of opinion we had on whether she was consulted (about the meetings) or not,” Limón said of Rodriguez.

As previously reported by the News, Rodriguez took issue with the superintendent for what she called violations of the aforementioned district policies. Specifically, BE (Local) states that the superintendent shall prepare the agenda for all board meetings in consultation with the board president; BDAA (Legal) reads that the board president calls a meeting of the board, giving public notice not earlier than the 30th day or later than the 10th day before the meeting, to discuss and adopt the budget and the proposed tax rate.

Rodriguez said at the Aug. 30 meetings that Limón did not seek consultation as cited in the aforementioned policies. Regardless, Rodriguez received the go-ahead to conduct the meetings as per Gus Acevedo, the attorney who represents the district.

Another action item on the agenda includes two requests pertaining to Acevedo – the first is to issue a 30-day notice to the attorney and the second is to seek a proposal of qualifications. Limón said this is the procedure to seek a new attorney for the school district.

Despite Rodriguez requesting both Acevedo and Limón be placed on the agenda, the superintendent said he was unsure if Acevedo’s inclusion was also as a result of the Aug. 30 meetings.

Attempts to reach Rodriguez for comment were unsuccessful as of presstime.

Meanwhile, Limón contends that the procedure followed for the meetings in question has been in use for the last eight years. Furthermore, he claimed Rodriguez was aware of the meetings due to her prior knowledge of them.

“I was under the impression she knew, because one of the items on the agenda belonged to her,” Limón said. “I guess she wanted more consultation.”

In a previous interview with the News, Rodriguez said, “The policies entailed are that the superintendent does not have the authority to develop or post agendas without approval of the board president. It has to be in conjunction, and those agendas were never run by me and they were posted. Coming from policy, that (approving, preparing agendas) is one of my duties and responsibilities of board president. He (superintendent) can’t be taking over my duties.”

Thursday’s meeting will be held at 7 p.m. inside the John F. Barron Administration Building Board Room, located on 240 N. Crockett St. in San Benito.

Did I read correct Why Not? You say….”Before when Mr. Gonzales was on board we didn’t see this kind of stuff maybe we should get him back” Are you kidding me??? When this man was superintendent we had the worst corruption, low morale, and worst administration ever in my opinion!!! Isn’t this the same man who went to Donna and was let go?? Talk about really turning the clock! Boy does IGNORANCE FEED INGNORANCE!!!!

It’s interesting how ignorant some people can be! It’s obvious that some people have been so accustomed to the corruptions that have prevailed in San Benito that they can’t recognize when something is actually being done with the best intentions. GET WITH THE PROGRAM, GUYS! She’s trying to fix all the corruption and help this district rise to the top as it once was…before Limon can on board!

    1. You are right here it’s all about our kids. Why should we let Mr. Limon be the Superintendent of schools if he is going to do what he has to for our school’s. Look at what he has done … Noting .. Not even for the employes. Before when Mr Gonzales was on board we didn’t see this kind of stuff maybe we should get him back.Oh back look Limon during his working hours, is he picking up his daughter at school going to see his wife at work on our taxs money? Ok then what he aint doing wrong. Look at Mrs. Sanchez working for our district. Is she getting Payed while she is attendind a city metting? That is where Limon is doing wrong … Look what he is with your Taxs money.

Marcela: your name sure sounds to close to my aunt Maricela Medrano who happens to be Down Syndrome with physical and cognitive disabilities. My uncle is school board member Oscar Medrano is her brother, and it sure seems you are using this name to imply that a member of our family is posting on this blog. Not very nice.

  2. I now what she is doing is the right thing . You all need to see what is going on inside the schools. Ask how many time you see the Super at the schools. Walk the halls ways and you tell me what you see. Polices no where to be seen. Students walking arounds the hall and no one asks thems where they are going. ,They try to hide things that happens at school so that it can look good . Its like they say\ ITS NOT WHO YOU ARE BUT WHO YOU KNOW.\ I THING she is doing a good job. All the others were doing as they waned to.Take your time and visited the schools and you will know how mess up this schools are.

Give me a break Citizen1!!! We wll all know Mrs. Rodriguez real intentions. In my opinion, she wants to be superintendent of San Benito Schools!!! Everyone know that!!!The -t-shirt soilder has said it himself! I think that’s why she is picking at a policy that involved an agenda she claimed she did not look at or approve and now blames Mr. Limon!! She even have an item posted on that particular agenda! Does Mrs. Rodriguez think we are ignorant or what? For a women with all those degrees, it appears she forgot to take COMMON SENSE 101!!! Like my father tells me ..”puedes tener toda la educacion del mundo, pero si no eres humilde de nada te sirve”.

NO-ONE IS EXEMPT FROM FOLLOWING PROTOCOL.
As the superintendent, one would think – he would set the example by abiding by RULES and POLICIES for all others to follow.
I too have no children in the district, however, I am a tax payer and it greatly concerns me when the HEAD of a DISTRICT is unaware of unfamiliar with the LOCAL POLICIES! That is his job to be aware, familiar, and to enforce ALL POLICIES that is why he is being paid that MONTHLY HUGE PAYCHECK.
We are all adults here people, wake up – it is costing the taxpayers thousands of dollars each month to pay a superintendent that is not capable of following protocol???? It is sad that it has been 8 years of violation and no one else was abel to catch this but Mrs. Rodriguez.

To Concern Citizen- I am a retired educator and I have worked with other districts and I know that Ms. Rodriguez, has an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and has earned her superintendent’s certification.
Maybe that is why Los Frenso ISD hired her as a principal.
May I ask what kind of degree or certification do you have?????

DO NOT BE SO QUICK TO CAST THE FIRST STONE IF YOU KNOW NOTHING OF INDIVIDUALS.

This is not easy for either the board members or their families, but they are there volunteering their time for the long stretch of 3 years and do not even get a single penny – I repeat they do-not-receive-a-single-penny,
unlike “MR. LIMON – SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS”.
I applaud Ms. Rodriguez for her courage to make things right.

i second that… very well said, no one likes change, but its for the best of the students and tax payers, why is he even being paid $112,000 year when he is never at work?

why are you sticking up for someone who does not care about the children of this school district?

This is not about the kids. This is about adhering or complying with “established district policies”.
“Mr. Limon contends that the procedure followed for the meetings in question has been in use for the last eight years.”

Doing something for eight years that does not follow established district policies does not make it right nor does it validate it. If the Superintendent and the Board do not like or approve a certain policy, they need to change the policy and not just violate it and then justify it by just saying, “We have always done it that way!”

you are so right… but in san benito and with limon, who’s a ‘yes’ man to his little circle of buddies who just pick up the phone and lets them do what ever they want even if its breaking the rules, that is his whole life…. he doesn’t think he should answer to anyone

I have NO idea how the hell she got the position of President of the School Board! .. I sure didn’t vote for her or those others without experience that are in the school board. What I can say is that, in my opinion, she does have a personal agenda… I heard she want her father a SBCISD maintenance employee to be put as supervisor of some department as soon as she was elected. Another thing what is this BS of her being president of school board when there are important things going on she doesn’t even have the guts to give her side to the media. What does the article say at the top say, “Attempts to reach Rodriguez for comment were unsuccessful as of presstime.” as I recall I’ve read other articles where the media can’t get a hold of her. … Any intelligent person with an important job would have a Cell Phone on and be Available 24/7.. or at least return the call.. sheesh!..

What does she do for a living? Does she have a college degree? Like I said , I sure didn’t vote for her! so I don’t know a thing about her.
It seems to me like she just reads over the damn School Board manual and what each members’ position description and is trying to find loopholes to get rid of people ( to prob. replace them with people that she personally knows).
I say next time people should Vote for people with EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST as the district hires exellent teachers with a college degree/certification. I can go on and on.. hahaha… But I will say something to her supporters/friends/ family before u start judging my comments… JUST LIKE EVERYONE I AM ENTITLED TO MY PUBLIC OPINIONS. Ms. Rodriguez remember YOUR JOB IS TO MAKE SURE THAT the SAN BENITO DISTRICT STUDENTS COME FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not attacking the other members of school board. Thats all u seem to do when i read articles about SBCISD, maybe I’ve missed it but when have u make public, positive comments about the district u represent???????

I agree. La Presidenta is in it against Mr. Limon and those who oppose her personal agenda, in my opinion. I really hope our other board members stand up against her before she brings our district down with her. It seems to me she is on a power trip and getting advice from the wrong people. Pobrecita! I know I will not be voting for her again.

you got it all wrong jrod, Limon deserves nada, nada y nada, neither do those school board members that have been there forever and have only lead the district downhill. get real… “la presidenta” is right, and you can tell just by the way everyone is reacting, why react if you ain’t doing nothing wrong? ah no pero todos los que les besan los pies (pa no ser vulgar) son los que les duele. limon no sierve pa nada

Iliana was financially supported to fire the Superintendent, in my opinion. I think that is her agenda and will not let go until this is done. She doesnt like what the attorney rules so now he is probably on the chopping block. Sad to say but I don’t think she has the students first.

@delasera, you don’t even know what you’re talking about. I believe Limon only has his interests at heart and his homies. He doesn’t care or else the school district would not be in the mess that it is, lawsuit city…. all cause he is egotistical, in my opinion. He does for himself and those that kiss up, I think. Get real, there are rules to follow and he is not exempt from them. This school district needs a new superintendent, attorney, and those “old” school board members replaced by citizens that care about students and their well being.
