RIO HONDO – The Bobcats of Rio Hondo will kick off their season this Friday as they play host to the Robstown Cotton Pickers at home.

The Bobcats will begin yet another quest to defend their District 32-3A co-championship and prove they can advance further into the playoffs.

With a good amount of their starters returning, Rio Hondo looks to be in good shape both offensively and defensively and is confident this season will prove to be one of their best.

Notching a scrimmage win against La Joya Juarez-Lincoln, the Bobcats look to stay focused and defeat the Cotton Pickers after coming short of a victory the last two years they faced off.

“It’ll be a good test to start the season,” said Head Coach Rocky James, who was excited to put his team to the test and gain a certain satisfaction in beating the Cotton Pickers.

Leading the offense this year will be Shawn O’Brien, who also plays a little defense, Jorge Bermudez, and of course Juan Puga who made his mark last year as a freshman after coming back from injury.

Defensively, the Bobcats will be lead by the strength of E.J. Castañeda, Freddy Gonzalez, Max Castillo, and also linebacker Eddie Orozco, the newest member of the Bobcat defense who will also be playing a little offense.

With this experienced team loaded and eager to achieve back to back district championships, fans can look forward to Rio Hondo being one of the best teams in the Valley this season, which starts at 7 p.m. this Friday at Bobcat Stadium.
