emergency-lightsInvestigators with the San Benito Police Department (SBPD) continue searching for two suspects wanted in connection with a home invasion on Thursday, Aug. 4.

According to Detective Manuel Cisneros, the crime remains under investigations as police continue to follow leads.

It was at approximately 1:45 a.m. on the 800 block of Alamo Street where Cisneros said two men with their faces either partially or entirely covered broke into a residential home and stole several items.

“(Officers) made contact with two females who reported that at least two men broke into the back of the residence and held them at gunpoint,” Cisneros said. “They forced the two females and their two small children, a seven and a nine year old, into the bathroom.”

That’s when the perpetrators took from the home a 52-inch flat screen television, an X-Box 360, and $300 in cash, not to mention the homeowner’s 2008 Ford Escape.

Furthermore, the detective said the women described the suspects as having a black and tan bandana covering half his face while the other had a white mask; both men were reportedly wielding pistols black in color.

The events of that night didn’t end with the burglary, however, as Cisneros said the suspects ordered both females out of the bathroom, laid them down on a bed, and tied their hands using sheets – this while the men made their getaway.

No injuries were reported, Cisneros said.

The vehicle was recovered later that day at approximately 10 a.m. The detective said the vehicle’s GPS system was activated after the owner reported the car stolen.

“It (GPS) gave us the coordinates, I put it on my cell, and, sure enough, it (Ford Escape) was located off of North FM 507 out there on the west side of Rio Hondo. It had been abandoned in a corn field,” Cisneros said. “That’s actually all we’ve got, because we have few leads right now, and hopefully someone will come up with additional information.”

In the meantime, investigators hope to get a hit on some fingerprints that were lifted from the recovered vehicle.

Those with information that could lead to the suspects’ arrest are encouraged to call the police at (956) 361-3880; anonymity will be upheld.
