Hound logoThe end of a labor dispute came Monday and, just like that, professional football returned to the minds of crazed fanatics aching for their Dallas Cowboys or Houston Texans fix.

The one constant during that time of uncertainty, however, was the fact that those in San Benito still had their Greyhounds to look forward to this year. And on Monday, Aug. 1, they’ll get to see the team’s future in the form of incoming seventh, eighth and ninth graders at the 2011 Greyhound Football Camp – right on schedule, too.

Students in grades seventh through ninth who are interested in playing football are invited to the camp, scheduled to run Aug. 1-4, Monday-Friday from 8-11 a.m.

According to the San Benito Greyhounds website, www.sbhounds.com, interested parties can download a registration form to bring with them the morning of camp. Athletes may also pick up registration forms at the Sports Complex, located at San Benito High School on 450 South Williams Rd., or register the first day of camp.

San Benito Greyhounds Head Coach and Athletic Director Spencer Gantt as well as the varsity staff will be directing the camp.

On what athletes can expect at the camp, Gantt said, “It’s an opportunity to meet all the coaches from junior high, freshman and varsity. And for us, it’s an opportunity to work with each one of them. These younger kids will get a taste of what they’ll be working on.” The coach also stressed to come dressed appropriately. “Obviously, light colored and lightweight clothing is preferred. It’s not going to be a lot of walk and talk. We’re going to get out there and get after it, so it’s going to be a lot of work,” Gantt said.

For more information on the camp, call Defensive Coordinator Dave Evans at (956) 361-6272.
