More than 300 members of the family of Victor and Lucia Maldonado of San Benito gathered July 2 for a reunion. The Maldonado family held a reunion Saturday, July 2 at the Casa Del Sol.
There were over 300 family members present, descendants of Victor and Lucia Maldonado of San Benito, coming from Arkansas, Houston and other areas of Texas and the Valley, in addition to San Benito.
The reunion started with a blessing by Deacon Jesus Reyes of St. Anthony Catholic Church, followed by a welcoming of all 11 branches of the Maldonado family.
Theme for the family reunion was patriotic, since it was the Fourth of July weekend. Military members of the families were honored with a tribute to them. All branches of the armed forces were represented.
The children of Victor and Lucia Maldonado are Manuela Solis (deceased), Pedro Maldonado (deceased), Antonia Limon (deceased), Juan Maldonado (deceased), Ninfa Yzaguirre, Angel Maldonado, Victor Maldonado Jr., Olivia Maldonado (deceased), Josefina Uvalle (deceased), Robert Maldonado, and Olga Garcia.
The 11 branches of the Maldonado family picked different color T-shirts to distinguish themselves from other branches. A button was also worn on the T-shirts to honor deceased family members.
A dinner was served while mariachis serenaded. Family photographs were taken of each family. A patriotic cake was served along with cookies and mints.
There were many gift card and monetary drawings. A dance was held from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight.
