Lacks Valley Stores will have a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of its San Benito store at 1000 W. Bus. Hwy. 77 on Friday, July 1 at 10 a.m. The event is open to the general public.
The store was owned by Whalen’s Furniture before it was sold to Lacks in the fall of last year, giving Lacks a total of 12 stores in South Texas. Since then, the building has been undergoing extensive renovation.
“We have made many improvements to the San Benito store over the past several months,” said Lacks General Manager Al Moffitt.
“I think visitors will really like what they see.”
New additions include a coffee bar, all new appliance and electronics departments, and an adjoining clearance center. The store will also feature new furniture vignetting and carpeting.
The store’s exterior has an updated look with new landscaping and a more modern, up-to-date color scheme.
“We are introducing brands to the store which are new to the San Benito market,” said upholstery buyer Carl Little, including brands like Aico, Franklin, Bernhardt, Lane and Southern Motion.
The opening of the Lacks store in San Benito comes less than two months after the company opened its 11th store in Alice on May 19th.
Lacks Valley Stores (www.lacksvalley.com) ranks 65th in the top 100 retail furniture operations in the U.S., according to Furniture Today. The company has over 700 employees.
The stores are located on the Texas border from Laredo to Port Isabel, including locations in Brownsville, Harlingen, Edinburg, Pharr, McAllen, Mission and Rio Grande City.
The 140,000-square-foot Lacks Furniture Galleria in McAllen is the largest furniture store in Texas. The company has been in business since 1935.
