The Friends of the San Benito Public Library will be holding a drawing for a barbeque pit to help raise funds for a recently renovated patio area of the library.
“We’re going to be raffling the barbeque pit to finish off the canopy area of the patio,” said Ernest Quintanilla, President of the Friends of the Library. “We want to add electricity to the area, and eventually, when it gets cooler, maybe show movies out there.”
The barbeque pit up for raffle is hand-made and donated by Benitez Welding, and it features purple and gold colors for any Greyhound fans.
“It would be a great gift for Father’s Day or for any Greyhound fan,” said Quintanilla. “We’ll also be including a $60 gift card from HEB.”
Raffle tickets are being sold at the front desk of the library for $3 per ticker, or two tickets for $5. The raffle is set for Thursday, June 16 at 6 p.m. at the library.
The library will also be holding a summer reading program which will feature events on Fridays and Wednesdays. The program will be free to the public.
Also planned for this summer, the library will be showing movies every other Saturday. The first movie was shown on Saturday, June 4.
“We had about 10 kids and a couple of adults,” said Quintanilla. “We’d like for that number to increase over time.”
The next movie will be shown on Saturday, June 18, the movies start at 12:30 p.m. Admission is 25 cents, and snacks will be sold. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. For more information, contact the San Benito Public Library at (956) 361-3860.
