After dismissing the Harlingen Lady Cardinals in the Bi-District round of the state softball playoffs this weekend, the San Benito Lady ’Hounds will be facing Eagle Pass Winn as they move on to area.
Both teams are set to travel up to San Antonio as a one game match will be played at San Antonio Northside Complex, Friday at 7 p.m.
Eagle Pass Winn defeated McAllen Nikki Rowe Monday night after Nikki Rowe tied up the three-game series on Saturday. Eagle Pass ended the game in the 13th inning as they took down Nikki Rowe with a score of 1-0.
The Eagle Pass Winn Lady Mavericks are the second seed team in District 29-5A and have an overall record 20-10, finishing with a 12-6 record in district. The Lady Mavericks are the runners up for the 29-5A title.
San Benito will be returning to the Northside Complex almost a year after suffering an agonizing defeat against Austin Bowie in the regional semifinal round of 5A playoffs. The Lady ’Hounds were swept out of the playoffs after two games against Austin Bowie in 2010.
The Lady ’Hounds are on a six game winning streak after suffering their only district loss to Los Fresnos in the second round of 32-5A competition and soaring over the Harlingen Lady Cardinals Friday, 12-6, and Saturday, 9-8. Their overall record now stands at 29-3 overall and are seeded first in 32-5A. The Lady ’Hounds are lead by seniors Amanda Garza, Kassandra Contreras, Yesenia Penablanca, and freshmen Amber Jasso.
