As the San Benito Lady Greyhounds look forward to the state softball playoffs Friday they’re leaving more than their superb season behind them.
The Lady ’Hounds were ranked at a program high of number 15th in the state of Texas 5A Coaches’ Poll Association. In the second round of district play the Lady ’Hounds suffered a devastating loss to the Los Fresnos Lady Falcons. The loss dropped the Lady ’Hounds to number 25 on the poll behind the Edinburg High Lady Bobcats, who were ranked at 18. The Lady ’Hounds lost to the Lady Bobcats during a preseason tournament. The Lady Bobcats ended their season with the 31-5A crown and are first seed playoff team as well as the Lady ’Hounds, who just won their seventh district title in 32-5A and are now set to face a rival school.
The Lady ’Hounds are set to face the fourth seeded Lady Cardinals in Harlingen Friday night at 7 p.m. in a best of three game series. Game two will be played at Lady ’Hound Stadium in San Benito at 2 p.m. If Harlingen can force the Lady ’Hounds into a game three it will begin 30 minutes following game two.
This Battle of the Arroyo will be the sequel for both teams who faced each other during the preseason, with the Lady ‘Hounds earning the victory.
A playoff win could help the Lady ’Hounds climb up the ladder of the state rankings and advance the San Benito in the state playoffs.
