As is the story with the other San Benito CISD School Board races, the Place 7 contest pits longtime incumbent Manuel “Meme” Gonzales, Jr. against newcomer Jose Julian Huerta.
Gonzales is looking to maintain his seat on the San Benito CISD school board while Huerta mans a campaign looking to unseat the incumbent and usher a new era on the board.
In the meantime, Gonzales said it is imperative to continue working closer with the school board if reelected. “The issues that are important to me during the election is always working together as a team in order to keep the district moving forward,” said Gonzales as he listed issues he deemed critical to the district. “I have the experience. We need to make sure that cuts are made in a way that they won’t have a negative effect on school and education. We need to make sure that we remain focused on the environment so student needs come first. Raising taxes is not an option as far as I’m concerned.”

Great response maybe next time you should mention all of that so citizens like me wont ASSUME no attempts were made. Either way thanks for clearing it up. Great job.

It was noted in the full article printed in the April 24th edition of the San Benito News, which you can purchase or simply read in the e-edition, that repeated attempts to contact Julian Huerta for comment have been unsuccessful. In fact, our calls requesting comment from Fatima Huerta and Julian Huerta have not been returned, and I can assure you we’ve been trying for at least two months now. For whatever reason the Huertas have made no effort in responding to our calls nor have they confirmed their attendance to the San Benito News “Meet the Candidates” Community Forum scheduled for this Thursday, this despite the fact that we’ve attempted to inform them a month in advance.
Bottom line, it is the candidate’s responsibility to make themselves accessible to the media and the public, and the News has gone above and beyond in our attempts to remain patient. In short, your question as to why we have yet to hear from Julian Huerta is one that’s better suited for him to answer. We’ve done our part.
Thank you for reading.
How come this article only gives Gonzales’s side???? I’m sure the citizens of San Benito also want to hear what Huerta has to say. Maybe the San Benito news should try and get his views also before publishing the article so that it wont seem as if they are playing favorites.
