The San Benito Lady ’Hounds hosted Brownsville Rivera Friday night to begin the second half of their season, hoping to remain undefeated in District 32-5A.
The Lady ’Hounds made short work of their opponent, finishing off Rivera in only four innings with a final score of 17-0 and bumping up their overall record to 22-2 and 8-0 in district play.
From the moment the game started, the Lady ’Hounds came off strong with freshman pitcher Amber Jasso leading the charge and never eased up to hold Rivera scoreless throughout the entire game.
San Benito then set the pace on offense with three runs in the first inning, three more in the second, five in the third, and a final six runs to end the game on the spot.
With a seemingly unstoppable defense and a dynamite pitcher, the state-ranked Lady ’Hounds seem to be going in the right direction for the remainder of the season.
The Lady ’Hounds look to face off against Pace as well as a decent Los Fresnos team next week to continue their streak and perhaps climb up to the top 10 in the state polls if all goes well.
It would be a rare opportunity to reach the top 10 in the state, one in which Head Softball Coach Elias Martinez said the team would welcome.
“It would be a great honor for the girls (to break the state’s top 10 rankings). It starts with tradition the older girls have made and everyone has a part in it,” Martinez said.
