San Benito Lady Greyhound pitcher Amber Jasso isn’t someone who, at first glance, would normally stand out as one of the most prominent softball teams in the valley. But this freshman phenom is shattering all doubt and letting her pitching prove everyone wrong.

The doubts from other teams are what Jasso says drive her to play stronger, and seeing them strike out gives her a sense of satisfaction. “When they first see me warming up, they think I’m slow and I’m too small to be good, but when I strike them out it makes me feel good,” said Jasso.

Being the youngest member on a successful team and establishing a success of her own isn’t giving this little lady an attitude of entitlement. The years of hard work and dedication by not only herself but also her father keep this young standout grounded. “My dad has helped me get better. We go outside and he catches for me while I pitch, and I pitch for a long time,” Amber explained ever so graciously.
