The San Benito Greyhound baseball team started off strong Tuesday night against the Brownsville Pace Vikings but couldn’t muster enough strength to pull off a victory.
Leading the Greyhounds was pitcher Albert Vallejo. In the first inning, Vallejo along with the Greyhound defense kept the Vikings from scoring with three quick outs. Offensively, Vallejo drove a pitch soaring over the centerfield fence that would later be the only run of the night for the ’Hounds.
The Greyhounds held the Vikings until the top of the third inning, when the Vikings took over the lead by scoring five runs. The Greyhounds were not able to cross home plate again and allowed the Vikings to score once more in the fifth to bring the final tally to 6-1.
“We had that one bad inning, and we couldn’t do anything offensively,” said Head Coach Xavier Acosta.
Next up in district play for the Greyhounds will be the Los Fresnos Falcons.
“Los Fresnos is going be a tough one. We’re going to have to get better on offense and keep our pitching strong,” said Acosta.
The game will be played in Los Fresnos and is set to begin at 7 p.m.
