Calling it “speculation,” San Benito CISD Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limon and School Board President Oscar Medrano dismissed reports from sources that educators are being laid off in anticipation of a projected $10 billion deficit in state education.
“Whatever rumors are out there that we’re going to cut employees at the next board meeting, they are not true,” Limon said. “That’s not going to happen.”
“At this moment at San Benito CISD, we are not laying off anybody,” said Medrano. “We are not in the process of doing that, but in the event of a major shortfall, we’re going to look at measures in making sure that we make ends meet. At this point, we don’t know, we’re just making speculation right now.”
Limon backed those statements by saying that at the board meeting on Tuesday, March 8, the board will be awarding contracts.
