Antonio “Tony” Gonzales announced his candidacy for re-election for Place 1 San Benito City Commissioner.
“I’ve only been in the city commission for six months so far, and I think I have learned a lot. I’ve been going to some classes. I haven’t done a lot because when I went in there, a lot of stuff was already done and already in the system. I just followed what they (City Commission) had already accomplished.”
Gonzales recently attended the TML (Texas Municipal League) Elected Officials Conference in Austin from Feb. 11-13. This was the third seminar Gonzales has attended since he first took office last summer.
“So far, in these six months in office, I’ve been to three seminars, two in Austin and one in Corpus Christi,” said Gonzales. “They talk about how to conduct meetings, what you’re supposed to do and what you’re not supposed to do. I’ve learned a lot, and we’ll progress in some things. We will.”
According to Gonzales, a majority of his accomplishments while in office were already in progress by the time he was elected. If re-elected, he said that he hopes to bring more businesses to San Benito, including restaurants.
