Last December Clarisse Arredondo took a look at the San Benito High School girls’ basketball program and thought to herself. Watching them run up and down the floor she could see that they were ready to take a step into a place the program had never been before.

Fast forward to present day and those thoughts have been put into action as the Lady ’Hounds now stand as the school’s first-ever girls’ District 32-5A champs, this after the team manhandled Hanna in Brownsville on Tuesday night in a 61-30 slaughter.

“I am so proud of what these girls have done,” said Arredondo, “sure I told them they could do it but it was them that went out and completed the task.”

She added after the game, “It’s a great feeling to be the district champions this year, it’s a goal that we set when we first started. We’re just very proud of the girls and how hard they worked to get here.”
