SBCISD logoSan Benito CISD Superintendant of Schools Antonio G. Limón said Monday that schools are beginning to be more “proactive” in their security measures.

For instance, Miller Jordan Middle School Principal Rico Rodriguez has begun conducting random security checks on the students using hand-held metal detectors (wands) in order to help create a safer environment, Limón said.

“We started implementing the wands last week,” said Rodriguez. “With the incidents that have happened throughout the upper Valley, I felt that we needed to be proactive. In my opinion, I’d rather be prepared than underprepared.”

Limón agrees.

“The principal, Mr. Rodriguez, sent me an email asking permission to be able to do that,” said Limón. “It’s just for the safety of students with the environment and the situations we live in today. He’s just being proactive in scanning students to make sure that they’re not taking anything that’s prohibited on campus.”
