The San Benito High School girls’ soccer team was in action yesterday in the opening round of the Dog Pound Soccer Tournament held at San Benito. The 12 team event will play out with the semi-finals and finals set for Saturday at Bobby Morrow Stadium.
The Lady ’Hounds recorded a pair of shutout wins in Friday’s games and are in control of who wins out in Pool C.
In the first game of the day it was sophomore goal keeper Mariana Perez holding fast in a 2-0 win over Mercedes. Jackie Zavala and Rebecca Villafranco each scored goals in the win. In game two it was a solo goal in the second half by Kassie Barrientos that provided the games only points. The tournament has been played now for several years in San Benito and it serves as a final tune up before the regular season kicks off.
