Lifelong San Benito resident Peter Galvan has combined two of his loves in life, Harley Davidsons and the Greyhounds. He now rides the highway in style on his customized purple Harley, showing off his school spirit.

Just about any San Benitian who has ever attended a Greyhound or Lady ’Hound sporting event may have their own memory of Peter Galvan.

For years, he paced the sidelines of the historic Greyhound Stadium on Friday nights, pounding his bass drum along to the chant of “Go, ’Hounds, Go” in order to get fellow Greyhound fans more involved in the game.

He has since retired his drum, and now he has a different means of getting the fans at the games motivated. The familiar beating that once symbolized the heart of Greyhound sports has now been replaced by a low rumble symbolic of a Greyhound growl.

“One day my wife and I walked into a Harley Davidson dealership, and my favorite color has always been purple,” said Galvan who was born and raised in San Benito. “There set-up in a showcase was a purple motorcycle. I looked at my wife, she looked at me, and she said ‘ok, go ahead.’ I didn’t even go there to buy one, but when I saw it and the color, she OK’d it and I went ahead and bought it.”
