Be prepared: that is the motto of the Boy Scouts of America, and for the past six years, two young men have been preparing to earn the coveted title of Eagle Scout.

On Monday, Jan. 24, San Benito teens Aaron Rodriguez, 17, and Dillon Jones, 18, were awarded their Eagle Scout pins in front of their families and community at the First United Methodist Church.

“It’s been a great experience,” said Rodriguez. “It’s a great honor to achieve an award that so few scouts earn.”

“I’m honored to be put in that elite group,” Jones said. “I’m proud to be one of the few.”

According to the Troop 25 Scout Master, Ray Cantu, only four to five percent of Boy Scouts make it to be Eagle Scouts, and those who do have many opportunities opened up for them in life.
