It wasn’t for the District 32-5A crown, it wasn’t for a playoff berth … it wasn’t even a rivalry.
But Tuesday’s night game versus the Los Fresnos Falcons meant something to the San Benito Greyhounds, and it also meant more that they pulled off the victory, 57-56. Sure, the team is 2-6, but with a bite as big as its bark this Greyhound team isn’t dead yet, playoffs or no playoffs.
It was somewhat of a shootout against the Falcons as the ’Hounds played one of their more aggressive games all season, attacking on all fronts providing a defensive front that helped stopped Los Fresnos’ scoring attempts.
“This win means a lot. We work hard every day. We play hard, and sometimes we just have setbacks, so the kids are pretty happy about this. Now they know we can do it,” said San Benito Greyhound Head Basketball Coach Eddie Abrego. “Los Fresnos is a great team, they’ve been in most ball games, so that just tells us that we can come back and bounce back.”
