Man gets 50 years for intoxication manslaughter

On Thursday, Jan. 13, Cameron County District Attorney Armando R Villalobos announced that 53-year-old James Edward Pearson of Weatherford, Texas was sentenced to 50 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division for the deaths of two Rio Hondo teenagers in 2008.

According to a press release sent by James E. Moody, a Community Education Specialist, Assistant County and District Attorneys Maria DeFord and Brandy Bailey presented evidence, exhibits, and arguments to a state district judge on Thursday morning during the punishment phase of the case.

After hearing testimony from members of the Mendoza family, who represent the deceased teens, the sentence was handed down.
