city logoThe City of San Benito and the San Benito Police Employee Association (SBPEA) negotiated a one-year contract extension on December 20, 2010.

According to Michael Galvan, association president, the contract is a “quick three-page extension.” “Basically it’s just an extension contract. We didn’t really get a new contract or anything like that. We were just extending terms of the current contract for one year,” Galvan added.

The association did not negotiate anything pertaining to salaries due to the current budget situation with the city, Galvan said. The association plans on waiting a year before they begin deciding what they may be able to negotiate with the city.

This follows grievances filed by the police department with Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) in December.
