The San Benito Lady Greyhound basketball team closed out the 2010 portion of the season by running over St. Joseph in a 42-29 route. They now set sail for the 2011 portion of the season and remain on top in District 32-5A in a three way tie with Weslaco and Hanna.
In the game against St. Joseph the team ran out to an 11-3 lead after a quarter as the defensive pressure provided plenty of chances early. On their way to forcing 25 turnovers the team took a halftime lead of 19-13 and then once again clamped down with a great third quarter. In that span of eight minutes the team controlled nearly every second as they outscored their opponent 16-4 before cruising home for the win. Sarah Garcia paced the team in scoring with 14 points and Amanda Garza was in double figures with 10. Alex Cerda and Kassandra Sanchez scored seven points each. Sanchez also led the team in rebounding and steals with five in each category.
