Defense keeps Lady `Hounds competitive

By JOE R. BOWLING, JR.

The San Benito Lady ’Hounds shook off a couple of losses over the weekend and rolled over Edinburg Economedes in a home game on Tuesday. The constant for the team for the season has been defense and in the Economedes game it was obvious from the opening tip.

In the game the Lady ’Hounds forced over 35 turnovers with relentless play as they rolled to the 42-22 win.

Kassandra Sanchez led the team in scoring with 10 points and Amanda Garza finished the game with nine. The game was close early as the ’Lady Hounds forced the Lady Jaguars several times to turn the ball over but missed on chances to turn that into points. The Lady ’Hounds led 9-6 after the first quarter and actually held the Lady Jags scoreless for the first four minutes; they went on to lead 23-10 at the break and continued the pace of not allowing Edinburg to score. They managed eight points in the third quarter and four in the fourth.
