Giving Back to the Food Pantry
San Benito Consolidated Independent School District (SBCISD) School Board Trustee Manuel “Meme” Gonzales donated a check for $100 to the San Benito Food Pantry on Tuesday. The check presentation was held inside the pantry, where President Lidia Garcia and other volunteers were present to accept the check. Sign Crashes Onto Two Vehicles
An O’Reilly Auto Parts sign measuring nearly 30 feet tall fell atop two vehicles Tuesday afternoon, this as a result of high winds, according to initial reports. The damaged vehicles included a newer model Chrysler 300 and an older model Ford pickup truck. Shown is a crew from Gulf Coast Sign Co. using a crane in an attempt to remove the sign. NJROTC celebrates 11th Annual Military Ball
Pinned-up hair, long gowns, pressed suits and shiny shoes was the scene on Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Rancho Viejo Country Club as the San Benito NJROTC celebrated its 11th Annual Military Ball. A formal military program, dinner and dancing was held as the cadets learned while participating in a Navy ceremony rich in customs and traditions a topic taught to cadets as part of the NJROTC curriculum. Soap 4 Hope
Pictured is San Benito Rotarian Ros Salmeron and Brenda Heredia, a member of the Harlingen Rotary Club and Executive Director of the Family Crisis Center, Inc. Salmeron presented to Heredia on behalf of the club donations for the Soap 4 Hope project. The Family Crisis Center is a local United Way agency with a 30-year presence in the area, providing assistance to victims of domestic violence and abuse.
