Various law enforcement agencies from around the Valley, including San Benito and Harlingen police departments as well as San Benito CISD police, the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office and federal authorities were on hand Tuesday at a Crime Victims Rights event. Festivities were held at the HEB in San Benito, where District Attorney Armando Villalobos read a proclamation declaring it Crime Victims Rights Week. The event was organized by Cynthia V. According to league president Frank Garza, over 425 kids registered for the 2011 season, fielding 35-40 teams. Special guests included San Benito CISD Board President Oscar Medrano, San Benito City Commissioners Antonio “Tony” Gonzales, Rene Villafranco, and Mayor Jack Garcia who along with Channel 4 News Anchor Marcy Martinez threw the first pitch to kick off the ceremonies.
