Investigators with the San Benito Police Department are currently investigating the homicide of a 19-year-old San Benito man.
Det. Rogelio Banda, Jr. of the SBPD reported today that Angel Perez, 19, of San Benito succumbed to injuries that may have resulted from a stabbing.
Banda stated in a news release issued this morning that police had responded to the intersection of Winchell and Rockefeller Streets at approximately 12:19 a.m. Monday in reference to an assault in progress.
“When the police officer arrived, they discovered a 19-year-old male identified as Angel Perez out of San Benito bleeding profusely from wounds caused with a sharp object,” Banda stated.
Police said Perez was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen but passed away “a few minutes after his arrival.”
“San Benito police criminal investigators are following several leads that will assist in identifying the assailant or assailants,” Banda further stated. “An autopsy has been ordered. Updates will be forwarded as information becomes available.”
