It’s that time of year again for the San Benito High School Homecoming Parade to march its way into the memories of those who attend.
“We are very excited,” San Benito High School Principal Delia Weaver said. “We are expecting loads of people to come and join in the festivities.”
The parade will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, downtown Sam Houston Boulevard. The Lighting of the SB will be held immediately following – usually at 6 p.m. – at the old Greyhound Stadium.
“We’re having a big celebration with many activities on the agenda,” Weaver said, “but it’s concentrated on the football team.”
Homecoming festivities will culminate Friday, when the San Benito Greyhounds will take on the Weslaco Panthers. Also included will be the SBHS Mighty Greyhound Marching Band, which recently made school history by advancing to the UIL State Marching Band competition. Weaver expects the parade spectators to cheer the band on.
“It will be very exciting,” she added. “I am sure the crowd will be very receptive and applaud them, because they are a state-bound band.”
At the moment, the number of parade entries is still unknown.
“No number known,” Weaver said, “because they are still working on it. At the moment, we are still getting entries.” She added that typically, the entries are close to 100, but they have no clear number until they get all of the entries in.
“We try to stress that the entries are with the district schools only. Any others, we usually suggest for the Christmas parade,” Weaver added.
