HIDALGO – Following last week’s loss against the La Feria Lions, the Rio Hondo Bobcats are set to face Hidalgo Pirates in Friday’s away game on October 19.
It was a tough loss last week for the Bobcats (4-3), especially dealing with the loss of their senior quarterback Juan Puga to a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), a season-ending injury.
Puga said, “Although I’m done, for now, I have much confidence in my team. We need to keep our heads up and stay strong and stay positive.”
Rio Hondo’s sophomore quarterback Eli Pitones has some big shoes to fill the remainder of the season. Puga,, however, believes Pitones is up to the challenge. “He’s a great quarterback, and we have a very strong defensive line,” Puga continued.
“Pitones and ‘the Brotherhood’ must stay strong, stay confident, and play hard like true Bobcats,” Puga added.
Rio Hondo will have to do just that if the team plans on getting past the Pirates (4-2) on Friday.
Kick-off is slated at 7:30 p.m. on October 19, at Bill Pate Stadium, located on 910 E. Pirate Dr. in Hidalgo.
