The San Benito Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has announced a huge improvement in the number of participants in the Shop San Benito campaign.
“Our program started in November, but we are just one of many factors in the economy. Our program draws attention to our retailers and our businesses by providing this campaign and incentives for shoppers,” said EDC Executive Director Alma Colleli. “We have the billboards and print ads throughout this area, but it’s one of many factors that can be attributed to the bigger picture, which is, we hope, the recovery of the economy.”
November, the first month of the campaign, had 455 entries – shoppers who spent $20 or more in the city and submitted their receipts for a chance to a win a $100 voucher as part of a Shop San Benito drawing. That amount has more than tripled in the second month of December, reaching a total of 1,587 entries. Of those 1,587 entries, 1,161 were from San Benito, 426 can from other Valley cities, 46 came from outside the Valley, and 44 did not list an area of origin.
