investigationSeasons have changed, yet citizens of San Benito are still waiting to hear whether or not officer Guadalupe “Lupi” Andrade of the San Benito Police Department will be reinstated or relieved of her position.

Back in July, a standard, mandatory drug test was administered to Andrade. Upon review, at least one substance was found which triggered cause for concern within the department, and subsequently Operations Chief Martin Morales requested that Andrade undergo a fitness for duty evaluation.

The San Benito Civil Services Commission met in closed session on July 25, for almost an hour, to discuss Andrade’s fate within the department. Though the flagged substance in question was not identified to the public, for the sake of Andrade’s privacy, the commission required that Andrade see a physician of the city’s choosing. This decision was mutually agreed upon by attorney Alan Ozuna, representing the City of San Benito, and Attorney Frank Zabarte, representing Andrade.

Whats the hold up? Who’s dragging their feet. This officer is either innocent or guilty of having illegal drugs in her system. If shes innocent, put her back to work.
