San Benito police are investigating the death of an infant child reportedly 5 to 6 months in age.
Few details have been released regarding the incident, which occurred Sunday morning, but what has been confirmed is that authorities have already questioned the mother and are planning on interviewing other family members sometime today. An autopsy will also be held as investigators await toxicology results as well.

On 8/19/12 officers of the San Benito Police Department responded to the 100 block of Norma Lee Lane in San Benito, Tx. in reference to the possible abandonment of a child at a residence. Upon the officers’ arrival, a child was found abandoned at a home located in the area and information was obtained from the child and family members who later arrived at the scene,that a medical emergency had occurred in which the mother of the child and family members rushed an infant to Valley Baptist Medical Center for health complications that resulted in the child’s death. The San Benito Police Department has launched an investigation into the matter which is still ongoing and further requests for information needed in reference to the case should be directed to San Benito Police Department Public Information Officer Rogelio Banda at (956) 361-3880.
