The overflow was so significant for Thursday’s entry level police officer exam, the San Benito Police Department couldn’t house the 93 test-takers, some of whom began assimilating before 8 a.m. in hopes of attaining the one SBPD position open.

However, Assistant Operations Chief Michael Galvan said up to three posts could possibly be filled.

Applicants were given two hours to take a 100-question exam which measures general aptitude in basic skills such as reading, comprehension, spelling, math, etc. Although applicants were not subjected to pre-screening prior to the exam, instant disqualifiers for employment include the conviction of “felonies and crimes dealing with family violence,” said Detective Rogelio Banda of SBPD.
