Greyhound football camp2Sweating in the sun Monday was the future of Greyhound football as the incoming seventh, eighth and ninth grade athletes took advantage of summer camp to sharpen their talents.

The camp, scheduled this week from 8-11 a.m. Monday through Thursday, has targeted several skills for defensive players and offensive players including catching and blocking. Athletic Director and Head Varsity Football Coach Spencer Gantt explained that all football staff from Riverside, Berta Cabaza and Miller Jordan middle schools and the high school was on hand to assist the players.

Anxiously awaiting the end of camp in the stands was Enedelia Farias, mother of an incoming seventh grader, Hector Peña Jr. Although uneasy about her son playing football, Farias said, the coaches, “came together, and showed an effort, it’s caring that they have united for the kids.” Coach Gantt said it allows players to get to know the staff better and build connections with their coaches and teammates.
