While she’s only a memory now, San Benito High School graduates of the 1940s will never forget her.
In fact, every year, for the past seven years, they honor Ruth McAnally, their senior English teacher, by awarding deserving students with a $1,500 scholarship in her name.
The funds used to pay for the scholarships were raised in honor of “Mrs. Mac” at a 60-year reunion in 2005 for SBHS graduates of the 30s, 40s and 50s.
McAnally, who taught for over 40 years for the San Benito school district, had a large impact on her students, said Ray Hughston, a member of the Ruth McAnally Scholarship Foundation.
