San Benito City Commissioners awarded a contract Tuesday to a Brownsville company for the replacement of many of the city’s fire hydrants, some of which, according to officials, are near 70 years old.
Details, however, as to how many hydrants will be replaced and where the older hydrants are located have yet to be revealed.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Assistant City Manager Hector Jalomo informed commissioners that the city received bids from four different vendors. He went on to say that the lowest of the bids belonged to HD Supply Waterworks of Brownsville for a cost of approximately $52,000, adding that the city will install the new hydrants.
