A San Benito police officer has resigned and a firefighter demoted following alleged and unrelated incidents of misconduct.
In response to an open records request filed by the San Benito News, Assistant City Manager Arturo Rodriguez confirmed Monday that Romeo Mancillas, the San Benito Fire Department captain who allegedly reported to work under the influence of alcohol, was suspended without pay for 30 days. In addition, Rodriguez said the captain was demoted to lieutenant.
However, city officials said that Mancillas will have the opportunity to test for fire captain again, and after recent test results showed that none of the firefighters who tested for captain passed, it’s likely that Mancillas could return to said post.
