San Benito resident Marisol Cervantes, a student at the University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB), has received the highest award an undergraduate could receive: the Leadership Ring Award.

Only two students were selected based on excellence in academics, leadership, and community service/campus service. Students must submit an application, two letters of recommendation and short essays on each category.

This semester, more applications for the award were handed in than any semester prior.
