The RGV Awareness Group Fifth Annual Autism Walk is slated Friday, April 13 at the Heavin Resaca Trail in San Benito.
The walk was first organized five years ago by a group of parents and grandparents looking to spread awareness about autism, a condition present from early childhood and characterized by great difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts.
“I don’t think that many people know all of the kids diagnosed with autism,” RGV Awareness Group President Jolie Mireles said. “There are more than 50 families just here in San Benito.”
