Constable: Arson suspect started fire to cook fish

RIO HONDO – The Precinct 4 Cameron County Constable’s Department confirmed Tuesday the arrest of a man who allegedly started the Jan. 25 grass fire.

According to Constable Robert Lopez and investigator Jose Zamorano, 17-year-old Isaac Garza was jailed Thursday, Jan. 26 and charged with arson, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

It was at approximately 5:49 p.m. on Jan. 25 that officers with the Pct. 4 Constable’s office were dispatched to the intersection of East Fernando Road and FM 345 in Rio Hondo, where a large grass fire was reported and required the efforts of firefighters from Rio Hondo and other neighboring communities to extinguish.
