The Los Fresno Falcons might have been predicted to be a team at the top of the 32-5A leader board by some Rio Grande Valley football enthusiasts, but the Bobby Morrow Stadium scoreboard Friday night showcased the San Benito Greyhounds’ win against the favorites not to mention definite proof that the ’Hounds are not what people outside Greyhound country mistakenly thought they were.

Falcons hit the field hard and slammed in a touchdown early in the first quarter to put them up for their only lead Friday night. The ’Hounds quickly answered with a 30-yard touchdown via quarterback keeper by Jacob Puente to tie the game 7-7 during the first quarter.

Editor-and Greyhound fans-For those of you who dont know, the San Benito vs Weslaco game is the DQ Game of the week on Fox Sports. What this means is that Fox will be at the pep rallies for both teams filming, interviewing fans, players and coaches plus a little history of both teams and the impact the game has. They will also have a small pep rally at the local DQ. They should give updates of the game during the Friday night show, may even show some highlites while game is going on. Also towards the end of the midnight Saturday morning show, they may show locker room pregame coaches speeches as well as half time and post game interviews. Those who miss this can see the replay starting at 9am. Hope you all can put that in the Wednesday news to give fans the heads up.

The Hounds did great. What I was disappointed in was that in the 2nd half, the Falcons decided to hurt our boys. When Jacob was sacked, he was on the ground and a Falcon player jumped and came down on him with all his weight, trying to hurt him. It was a late hit yet Buck, the referee chose not to call a foul, Again on a late hit, one of our boys was hit in the back, which if it was during the play would have been a block in the back, but it was late and hurt our player again. No flag was thrown. THe only flag that was thrown was a blatant, intentional and vicious hit on our defensless punter. When you go for a block, it is where the ball is, not at the head of the punter. Coach Gantt should have complained but I didnt see him do that.
