Change is here.
Effective Oct. 1, Lieutenant Martin Morales of the San Benito Police Department (SBPD) will assume the responsibilities of Operations Chief (OC), a position created following the reassignment of now-former Chief George Gomez to captain and the promotion of Human Resources Director Arturo Rodriguez to Assistant City Manager.
Rodriguez’s promotion, which came with an increase in pay from $50,000 to $65,000, will allow him to oversee emergency services for the City of San Benito such as the police and fire departments.
Morales, meanwhile, will assume all operational aspects of the PD, Rodriguez said.

I just wanted to congratulate Lt. Morales! Our city wants integrity- a clean, honest image of police department. Lt. Morales is a very strong and religious man and I have no doubt that he will do the right things, legally. I have faith that he and Mr. Rodriguez will clean up the police dept. and make all those officers great officers. Those that don’t want to be great should leave.
Congrats on the new position to Lt. Morales. I know he’ll do a great job.
