Board takes no action on superintendent

San Benito News
Members of the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees exchanged heated words at a regular meeting Thursday night, when a packed house was in attendance in anticipation of agenda items that have recently sparked city-wide debate.
As previously reported by the News in the Sept. 14 mid-week edition, Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón was to be up for discussion or possible action, in closed session, for policy violations alleged by Board President Yliana G. Rodriguez.
The violations stem from an Aug. 30 public hearing and meeting in which Rodriguez accused Limón of violating policies BDAA (Legal) and BE (Local) by allegedly not consulting with her when preparing and posting the agendas for said meetings. BE (Local) states that the superintendent shall prepare the agenda for all board meetings in consultation with the board president; BDAA (Legal) reads that the board president calls a meeting of the board, giving public notice not earlier than the 30th day or later than the 10th day before the meeting, to discuss and adopt the budget and the proposed tax rate.
But board members took no action on these matters after reconvening from closed session Thursday.

I sent my comments about this school board president the other day and it didnt even get posted.. goes to show who has the newspaper on their side..
Citizen1: I’m afraid you’re guilty of stereotyping all citizens of San Benito as catholic. There are more than fifteen non-catholic churches in San Benito (baptists, church of christ, methodists, presbyterian, etc.) that hold Wednesday night services. Laughing at the rationale for not holding board meetings on Wednesdays because it is a church night is rather short-sighted and downright rude.
I have yet to see this meeting. I’m stil waiting for it to be uploaded onto YouTube. Last months public comment was not aired, as in the previous meetings.
By the way, Mrs. Rodriguez is NOT CATHOLIC EITHER!!! See you at church on Wednesday!!!
Are you kidding me Citizen1?? The principals, directors and coordinators were all quiet at the the meeting. What meeting did you see? The loudmouths were, I believe, all Mrs. Rodriguez supporters. I even saw an ex-superintendent’s wife there!!! And please Citizen1, we all know La President brought back public comment for her dearest buddy to speak on tv!!! Everytime I see the meetings on tv, all I see is the guy speaking outrageous things!! An to boot, isn’t his daughter on the school board??? Why doesn’t he tell us how much business he makes out of the school district?? BOTTOM LINE: This is not the change we voted for. I supported and voted for Mrs. Rodriguez thinking she would be a good board member. Boy was I wrong!!!!
In response to both DelaSera and JRod – If you look CLOSELY at the TV, you will see that the members of the audience are Principals, Directors and Coordinators. Is this the crowd of loudmouth that you were referring to?
Are these the people you refer to being Ms. Rodriguez supporters? Are these the people that were being rude, disrespectful, laughing and booing? You need to get the facts straight before you go making false accusation.
On the contrary, it is Mr. Medrano and Mr. Tumberlinson are showing lack of respect to Ms. Rodriguez as fellow board member, colleague, and as a female
Regardless, if you agree or do not agree on issues, they still need to accept the fact that Ms. Rodriguez is the SAN BENITO CISD BOARD PRESIDENT and give her the respect that she is entitle to as BOARD PRESIDENT.
Mr. Tumberlinson being a former principal himself should remember and relate to having a position where you are the leader of other individuals.
I am more than certain that he expected respect and courtesy from his staff -EVEN WHEN THERE WERE ISSUES THAT HIS STAFF DID NOT AGREE ON.
And yes, there are CCD Classes on Wednesday for the students, but there is NO CHURCH SERVICE – BUT MR. MEDRANO WOULD NOT KNOW THAT BECAUSE HE IS NOT CATHOLIC.
And enclosing, the one thing positive that Ms. Rodriguez has done is bring back public comment to be aired. As taxpayers, we have a right to know what is going on with the children and what is going on within our schools.
Now why do you think Mr. Limon took and previous board members decided to take it off the air and goes as far to move it to the end of the meetings after most of the audience was gone??????
Makes you wonder what they wanted to hide from us –
we as taxpayers have a right to know and question their decisions.
ONE THING IS PERFECTLY CLEAR, THESE BOARD MEMBERS WERE CHOSEN BY THIS COMMUNITY OF VOTERS TO REPRESENT THEM – BECAUSE THEY WANTED CHANGE AND IT IS CHANGE WHAT THEY ARE DOING FOR THIS DISTRICT THAT PEOPLE STILL ARE AGAINST.
YOU NEED TO ACCEPT CHANGE TO MOVE FORWARD………………
Since I am getting emails from people who know me as JRod and for the record, I am not the JRod who is posting comments here!
I am not responsible for his/her comments!
oh….and one more thing….. When Mrs. Rodriguez’ supporters booed Mr. Tumberlinson, Mrs. Rodriguez (La Presidenta) just sat there and laughed along with the rude group in the audience. This just goes to show the lack of respect for her fellow board members. Mr. Tumberlinson was my principal when I was in high school, and he deserves respect!! Someone told me he worked for over 20 years for our school district as an educator and principal. I guess education doesn’t teach manner now a days!! What a Shame!!
Yes, and she wore blue jeans to present the awards to the schools and administrators. Is this the way she represents SBCIDS in Austin wearing blue jeans.
I grew up poor, but new when to wear our Sunday’s best. It was a simple dress, clean, and pressed, not BLUE JEANS.
OMG! I see two mispelled words. Should read SBCISD and knew not new.
I saw the meeting on TV and couldn’t believe how disrespectful the members of the audience were! These people were there to support the school board president’s agenda. Don’t these people go to church on Wednesdays?? I know my kids go to CCD classes on Wednesdays. As for Mr. Medrano, I don’t know him, but I always see him at all the school events more than any of the other board members. One time he read at my daughter’s classroom. I have yet to see Mrs. Rodriguez at any school event. If she is an educator and parent first, then why did she run for school board?? Like the saying goes…”if you can’t handle the heat (Mrs. Rodriguez), then get out of the kitcken!!!”
Petty foolishness. If its all about the kids why not settle things amicably and dont get a crowd who heckles and degrades anyone who is opposed to your canidates views. This is the way the taliban does things and in third world countries and now at SB Board meetings. voters got their wish.
NO RESPECT on Mr. Medrano he SHALLof been more of a man . REMEMBER MR> MEDRANO THE BEST FOR THE KIDS AND THE CITY .MAY BE YOU NEED TO SEE WHAT REALLY GOES ON IN THE SCHOOLS . OR DO YOU WANT TO COVER UP AS WELL?
The SB President has not done one positive thing for the School District. What a sorry group in the audience. I guess they were all there to support the president and the inexperienced SB memeber.
OMG. Booing at the meeting. They should have been thrown out. Audience should be silent. And laughing that Wednesday is a church day for some. Deny the Lord before others and He will deny you before His Father.
Rules are rules….period. Doing something the wrong way for 8 years doesn’t mean its the right way. We ask our children to follow rules and guidelines, so I think its only right for us as adults to do the same. Everyone should think about the example we are setting for our children. That’s what matters here….Our Children! Plain & Simple!
