La Posada Providencia receives $4K

NEWS Staff Report

La PosadaLa Posada Providencia in San Benito received a $4,000 gift certificate on July 2 from a retail home improvement and construction store in Harlingen.

According to Sister Zita Telkamp, La Posada is a shelter that offers hospitality to refugees/asylee from around the world who have been victims of torture.

“(Some have been) beaten, robbed, raped for either their religious or political views. These victims are in the legal process seeking the freedom we enjoy,” Telkamp said. “Since La Posada is a non-profit organization that receives no state or federal aid, we are grateful to our grantors. We certainly not only want to let our grantors know we appreciate their support but we also want the public to be aware of this support.”

The monies will be used specifically to replacing outdated appliances, such as stove, refrigerator and a washer, not to mention improving shelving for the dorm, laundry room and office as well as preparing the garden for fall planting. Furthermore, the garage will be furnished with guttering.
