Julio Cesar Perez arraigned in wife’s murder

BROWNSVILLE – The Cameron County and District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday afternoon that Julio Cesar Perez, 41, was arraigned by State District Judge Migdalia Lopez of the 197th Judicial District Court on capital murder charges of his wife, Sonia Elizabeth Perez from San Benito.

Assistant District Attorneys L.J. Raab and Pete Gillman represented the State of Texas during the arraignment before the court.

Perez is charged with the capital murder of his wife, a Rio Hondo school teacher and the mother of their two daughters. On March 31, 2011, Sonia Elizabeth Perez was discovered in her van along Robles Road off of FM 1846 (Williams Road) in Rio Hondo. A Cameron County Sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene at approximately 10:49 p.m. that night and found Perez in the driver’s seat of the vehicle with two gunshot wounds, one to the right side of her head and the other to her right torso.
