The San Benito Economic Development Corporation (EDC) wrapped up its Shop San Benito program with a grand prize drawing for a $1,000 shopping voucher redeemable at most participating businesses in town.
“The Shop San Benito was a promotional program that reminded all of the Rio Grande Valley that this is a community that is open for business,” said Bill Elliott, EDC Board President. “As an image campaign it reminded folks in the Valley that we have great stores and outstanding professional services, not to mention being a great place to live,” he said.
The drawing was held during a reception that took take place Wednesday, June 22 at the San Benito Municipal Building, in which of over 6,000 entries for the drawing were submitted, Belinda Gonzales of San Benito was the lucky citizen whose name was drawn as the winner by Mayor Joe H. Hernandez.
According to Shop San Benito Committee Member and EDC Board Member Shirley Vega, she enjoyed meeting local Business Owners/Managers in San Benito and received positive feedback on the Shop San Benito Campaign. “The owners are very appreciative of the promotion of their business.” Over 70 businesses participated in the program. Businesses also benefitted from the program by attending top-notch customer service and business training workshops over the last seven months.
Roel Villarreal, EDC Board Member and Shop San Benito Committee Chair, said he is proud of the efforts of the board and EDC staff. “Together we worked to make our businesses better and encourage citizens to support their community by shopping in San Benito first. “I want to wish our shoppers good luck, and thank all of the participating businesses,” he said.
The Shop San Benito Program was made possible by San Benito EDC and the City of San Benito. Also, in partnership with the San Benito News, the EDC produced monthly magazines highlighting the Shop San Benito campaign’s efforts to promote local businesses.
