People of Earth, say “Hello” to Adios Pluto, a four-member outfit who’s main goal is to distinguish themselves from other bands in the area by making good music.

“(Our sound) is very indie rock. The songs are kind of fast. We have a couple of ballads,” said frontman Trey Martinez who is a dual threat of sorts, providing vocals and guitars skills to a plethora of other instruments he contributes to the band’s sound. Martinez also happens to be the great nephew to the ‘Father of Conjunto,’ Narciso Martinez. “Our influences are Franz Ferdinand, Pink Floyd, Mars Volta, we mix everything we can. We love the blues music. Gaspar (Morales) is really into the older stuff.”

Other members of the band include Paul Hernandez on bass, Leo Gonzalez on guitar and Gaspar Morales on drums.

“It’s really a mixture of a bunch of genres in one. It’s a lot of fun,” said Leo Gonzalez while describing the sound of Adios Pluto.

“It can’t really be defined. It’s kind of crazy,” said Martinez. “It started out with just Paul (Hernandez) and I. There were just too many punk bands and metal bands. We wanted to do more of a variety of things. So we got together and started writing. That’s when we met Gaspar and Leo. Everything just fell together.”

“It just clicked,” added Gonzalez. “Other bands around here sound very similar to each other. Some stand out, but the majority of them sound the same.”

Adios Pluto has only been playing together for approximately one month, but they are already planning to play some shows in the near future, one of those performances includes a gig at the ResacaFest on July 3.

“There are some good bands from San Benito, like Filthy Rabbits, and OK Robot. They have a female singer,” said Martinez. “They’re good bands, but we really want to stand out, so we’re going to be presenting ourselves very differently. We were talking about maybe going up on stage wearing ties. We threw around the idea of maybe wearing masks, and we threw around the idea of different kinds of artwork. We just have all of these ideas that are waiting to come out pretty soon.”

“We just want to keep the listeners and the fans interested,” added Gonzalez, who along with Morales has played with Madelyn Vallejo, says that he describes his guitar playing as “very different.” He credits Omar Rodriguez Lopez of the band The Mars Volta as his biggest influence.

“I look up to Omar Rodriguez Lopez. He’s one of my favorites,” said Gonzalez. “His style is very different, too. It’s not very listener friendly. You need to take some time to appreciate it, and once you do, it’s the best. It’s like no other style.”

The band is already prepping to release a CD, which was recorded in Martinez’s studio at his house.

“We’ll have our CD available on Thursday at our show at the V, but our actual prepared album will hopefully be ready for ResacaFest,” Martinez said. “Hopefully we’ll have t-shirts by then, too. We haven’t really come with an official name yet, but we’re throwing stuff out there right now. Right now we have six songs recorded.”

Anyone interested in sampling Adios Pluto’s music can visit they’re page on Facebook. Anyone who wants to see them live is encouraged to check them out when they play The V on Thursday, June 23, and will be playing ResacaFest on Sunday, July 3.

For Adios Pluto, right now it is all about making a name for themselves, and making a statement while they’re at it.

“We don’t just want them to come see us play again, we want them to say, ‘Wow, that’s different,’” said Martinez.
