The San Benito Chamber of Commerce will be holding its Seventh Annual Kids Fish tournament at the Heavin Resaca Trail on Saturday, June 25 from 4-8 p.m.

“The categories are the same as every year.” said Chamber President Zeke Padilla. “We have three age groups, and there will be prizes for first, second and third. The age groups will be ages four to eight, nine to 12, and 13 to 15.”

According to Padilla, the first, second and third place winners from each age group will receive various prizes including rods, reels and fishing tackle.

“(Kid Fish) is a free event for the kids,” said Padilla. “The whole purpose of the event is to get families together to spend time together and enjoy the Resaca.”

Padilla said that the winners in each category will be determined not by any particular type of fish, but by the size of the fish itself.

“The judging will be determined by total weight of the fish,” said Padilla. “We just invite all of the kids to come in and register and we’ll give them a wristband as a keepsake. We encourage all of the parents to be with the kids. That’s one of the rules; the parents must accompany the kids.”
