AUSTIN – Dolores Ramirez, a bilingual kindergarten teacher at Rangerville Elementary School in the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District (SBCISD), took office on June 1, 2011, as president of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association.
Founded in 1927, TCTA is an independent, nonunion association for Texas teaching professionals, which serves more than 50,000 members across the state.
Ramirez won election as president-elect in February 2010 at TCTA’s annual convention in Fort Worth and began serving her one-year term as president-elect on June 1, 2010. In the positions of president-elect and president, Ramirez helps guide the Association’s efforts as it works to enhance the teaching profession and provide a full array of services and advocacy to members.
Ramirez, a longtime TCTA member, has served at the statewide level as chair of the Budget committee and spent seven years as a district 1 director on the TCTA Directors’ Council.
Locally, she is a faculty representative with the San Benito Classroom Teachers Association, where she has also held the president and vice-president positions. She has served as president of the District I Coordinating Council, member of the Region 1 Teacher of the Year panel, and grant proposal reader for TEA with the Even Start Literacy Program. Ramirez has represented her campus on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council and her grade level on the Campus Improvement Team. A member of the Kinder Teachers of Texas, she was named Teacher of the Year for Rangerville Elementary School in 2006.
Ramirez earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville (now Texas A&M) and bilingual certification from the University of Texas, Brownsville. Her community service extends to the San Benito Historical Society, Kiwanis Club, K-Kids Club, and Aggie Moms of the Rio Grande Valley. Her daughter, Andrea, a 2010 graduate of Texas A&M University, is currently working in Denver, but is due back in Texas in June.
The TCTA 2011-12 Directors’ Council also included Linda Corpus of Mission, Gloria I. Galvan of McAllen and Norma Reza-Rodriguez of San Benito, serving as district 1 directors.
TCTA is based in Austin and is the only statewide teachers association that limits active level membership to those directly involved in classroom teaching or teaching support.

Thanks for the heads-up!
Wrong organization in Title. Ms. Ramirez is president of TCTA not TSTA.
